June 21st is a very peculiar day in France. In addition to being the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere, the longest day of the year in France is marked by a great celebration: the music festival.
On June 21, people can play music freely on the street, without having to ask permission from the city hall until 23:59 on the same day. Anyone and everyone can have their own party. And they take it very seriously! Several associations come together to make a super program. For example, this year there will be a giant karaoke in the main square of the city. Yes, a giant karaoke!
And it's total madness. Every twenty meters is a different song. All styles and tribes are accepted. Last year was my first music party, and I think I can say that it is a carnival day with no rules! Every place is a place, every song is music and everybody is a DJ!
The music festival was created and has been taking place in every city in France since 1982, and more than 110 countries around the world have also joined the celebration.
Although the atmosphere is festive, it is not a holiday. However, some companies close earlier and release employees to enjoy or organize the party!
