WINTER FOODS

IF THERE IS SOMETHING that I love to do, that something is certainly to eat!

And since we are only a few days away from the end of winter here, I took advantage of the season to try out much of the winter culinary wonders (sorry for the quality of the photos, the desire to eat was so much that the photo was for later!) That the French eat here.

So here's a list of 11 things we eat in winter:

  1. Fondue

Classic in winter, the fondue here is also the main piece to keep warm.

2. Raclette

A tradition and favorite of Alsatians, raclette is always made at dinners with friends. It consists of baked potatoes, melted cheese (in this device below) and sausages!

3. Spaetzle

My declared love, he is good in all seasons! But with the hot sauce on top of the dough…. Passion for sure!

4. Tarte Flambée

Recently presented here on the blog, “French Pizza” according to our German neighbors is all about love. When it comes straight out of the oven and you bite that melted cheese… <3

5. Bretzel

Bretzel is a slightly crunchy bread and delicious to eat (I'll talk about it yet). Usually it comes only with coarse salt, but when you want to put a foot in the jackfruit, you can get one with melted cheese and BACON!

6. La Strasbourgeoise

One of the fattest things to eat in the winter! This light sanduba consists of: a THIRTY CENTIMETER sausage, bechamel sauce, three types of cheese and BACON! It is not easy to find, in fact I only saw this sandwich on the Christmas market, which I think is quite positive, because eating it can often be bad for your health!

7. Choucroutte

Basic dish, classic of the region, and hearty! Chouroutte (sauerkraut) is a dish composed of sliced white cabbage cooked with potatoes and different types of meat. The one I ate was a homemade choucroutte, and delicious! But the cabbage has to be of quality, otherwise the dish will taste sour and the experience may not be the best! And attention : choucroutte gives gas! 😉

8. Three fish Choucroutte

Specialty of a local restaurant, this marvel is also part of the tradition of Alsatians. I confess that I fell in love! The dish consists of: sole, salmon and smoked haddock that pack the braised cabbage with spices and aromas that make the tongue salivate! I can't wait to go back!

9. Jambonneau au munster

Another nourishing dish from the Alsatian winter, jambonneau would be the pig's calf. Delicious meat, but I confess that I had a great hesitation when I saw the size of the bone inside the meat (meat with bones always makes a bad impression). Other than that, you have to be hungry to face this dish with salad and sauteed potatoes !!

10. Escargots

Yeah. I, who thought that day would never come ...
Snails are commonly eaten at Christmas, but it is quite easy to find them as entrances in various restaurants. Most come like this, as in the photo (and no, it's not like Mr. Bean's film). It is very difficult to find a restaurant that serves escargort in the shell, which makes it easier to eat, visually speaking.
The escargot itself has no taste, and its texture is close to the texture of a squid. The grace of the dish comes from the sauce. Butter, parsley and garlic. A lot of butter, a lot of parsley and a lot of garlic .

11. Grauffre au Nutella

To change of strange food a little, let's go to the wonderful dessert that filled my December days with happiness: gauffre au nutella !!
No kidding, of the 7 days of the week, 4 I ate a gauffre! I took on the challenge of finding the best gauffre on the Christmas market, and I found it !! It is wonderful, crispy and perfectly balanced in Nutella! Make no mistake, if you put too much nutella, you can't chew! Sugar sucks your saliva and your mouth gets stuck! Believe in those who have been there !!! 😉

Et voilà! One of the best ways to get to know another culture is through its cuisine, and one of the greatest pleasures of changing countries is discovering and playing with new gastronomic experiences that enrich the soul and increase the size of the belly!
